About The Workshop

This two-day workshop is centered around the fascinating craft of natural dye-making. Participants will delve into the alchemy of transforming plant life into an array of earthy pigments used to dye wool fibers.

You will learn to identify the best plants to harvest and how to process them for our dye bath,  as well as for storage and future use. We'll take a short foraging walk to gather our plant materials.  You will also become familiar with mordants and their role in preparing the wool fibers to accept the dye solution and enhance color fastness.  Fibers will be simmered in large outdoor dye pots and hung in the breeze to dry. Learn to record the process and tag the yarns for future reference.

At the end of the workshop, participants will not only have several hanks of the yummiest dyed wool to take home but also a newfound appreciation for our local plant world.  An abundant list of online and printed resources will support future dyeing adventures. This hands-on experience takes place in a rustic, open-air dye kitchen.

Don't miss this comprehensive workshop that will get you started dyeing the most beautiful, earthy-colored fibers for your weaving and knitting projects!

Workshop Fee:  $325,  $300 purchased before April 1.

All materials and supplies are included.  Please bring latex gloves to protect your hands from stains.
