About The Workshop
Eco Printing creates (more or less perfect) prints of leaves, using the natural pigments, tannins and acids present in the leaves combined with mordants, moisture and heat. Working in an outdoor dye kitchen, you will create prints on both paper and natural fiber fabrics using a variety of acid-rich leaves and rusty metal bits. Materials supplied but if you want to hit the thrift store, or your own closet, choose white or pale colored silk, wool, or linen fabrics. New is fine as well. Note: This process does not work well with synthetic fabrics. Inexpensive, thrifted blouses in linen and silk will also be available for purchase. On the second day, learn a simple book binding process using your eco prints to make a unique art journal.
Plan to wear comfortable clothes, an apron, and closed toe shoes for safety reasons. If you happen to be in an area that has eucalyptus, black walnut, or colorful maple leaves, please gather plenty to print and share with the group.
This workshop is for all levels of creativity. My artist friend, Marian Haid, will be my assistant.
